The “Sagra dei Culurgionis,” a highly anticipated annual event, takes place in Tortolì during the week of the feast of Sant’Anna, on July 26th. This festival celebrates culurgiones, a locally produced stuffed pasta that has earned the prestigious Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) status. During the event, you can savor this delicacy at food stands set up throughout the town.
The recipe for Tortolì culurgiones is one of the oldest in Sardinian culinary tradition. These are ravioli with a soft filling made from potatoes, pecorino cheese, mint, garlic, or onion, topped with tomato sauce and plenty of grated pecorino cheese. This pasta, now considered a traditional holiday dish, has humble origins and was closely linked to the agricultural and pastoral traditions of Ogliastra. Its preparation was passed down from mother to daughter, jealously guarded as a family ritual.
The festival is not limited to tasting culurgiones, but also offers an opportunity to immerse yourself in Sardinian culture through musical performances. The event’s organizing group is a fervent supporter of local musical traditions and offers performances of Sardinian folk music during the festival.
