Other activities and places to see:
The Mask Museum in Mamoiada
The “Museum of Mediterranean Masks” in Mammoiada is one of the most important museums in the area.
The traditional masks, the Mamuthones and the Issohadores, famous throughout the world, join the history of the Mediterranean regions through the representations and masks of Carnival, revealing common stories and cultures.
The visit to the Museum begins with a multivision of images, texts and sounds accompanied by a particular musical commentary that introduces the visitor to the Carnival and the people of Mamoiada and tells the origins and meaning of the Mamuthones.
The “Barbaricino Carnival Hall” follows, which presents a series of masks from central Sardinia. Concluding with the “Mediterranean Hall”, divided into three geographical areas: the Alpine arc, the Iberian peninsula, the Balkan peninsula.

Orgosolo the town of murals
Orgosolo is located in the heart of Barbagia del Supramonte. The territory has been inhabited since ancient times. The presence of the domus de janas, the tombs of the giants and the nuraghes of Su Calavriche, Mereu and Gorropu are evidence of this.
Having become famous at the end of the 19th century for news stories related to so-called banditry, it now stands out for the characteristic murals painted on the facades of the houses and on the rocks around the town, with social, artistic and political content.
A World Heritage Site for its ancestral aspects is the tenor choir, the traditional Barbagia choral singing, today under the protection of UNESCO.
A bearer of culture and tradition, especially food and wine, it will guide you to discover the ancient and genuine flavors of the typical cuisine.
Worth a visit is the church of San Pietro, the patron saint of the town, and in particular its fifteenth-century bell tower.
A day to discover Sardinian culture and tradition, but also an opportunity to admire the unique landscapes of the Sardinian hinterland.

The Green Train of Sardinia
One of the best ways to travel through and get to know the different aspects of Ogliastra is through a trip with the Trenino Verde. The name “Trenino verde” comes from two characteristics of this service. “Trenino” is given by the small size of the convoy compared to the ordinary dimensions of this type of vehicle, while “Verde” recalls the long stretches of uncontaminated nature that it crosses during its journey.
A journey to discover the truest and most evocative face of our territory, visiting some of the most beautiful places, often so impervious and hidden that they can only be reached on foot. Bridges, stations, roadmen’s houses that enrich the landscape, perfectly integrated into the environmental context. If you want to spend a peaceful and relaxing moment, the Trenino is ideal: its moderate speed allows you to fully enjoy the landscape and the surrounding nature and visit places with an ancient and distant charm. Starting from Arbatax, a railway station on the sea, you cross the territories of Girasole, Villagrande, Elini, Arzana, Ilbono and Lanusei; the majestic Gennargentu mountain range will appear, the highest in Sardinia, reflecting its peaks on Lake Flumendosa. The landscape is an alternation of emotions: “Perda Liana” stands alone, a heel of limestone rock that leads to the territories of Gairo, Ussassai, Ulassai and Seui, where the territory changes appearance again, with rocks of the most varied shapes.
After crossing more than 60 kilometers of railway, surrounded by a forest of holm oaks, the locomotive stops on the tracks. The route can continue on foot to the Montarbu nature reserve, between the territory of Ussassai and Seui, among the scents and colors of an uncontaminated environment. A pleasant walk will lead to the discovery of the limestone heels.
