Feast of St. John the Baptist and Sagra de su Nenniri 2026

Feast of St. John the Baptist and the Su Nenniri Festival 2026: Tradition and Charm in Bari Sardo

Bari Sardo is preparing to celebrate one of its most heartfelt and evocative holidays. On the weekend of July 11 and 12, 2026 (dates to be officially confirmed), the heart of Ogliastra will beat to the rhythm of ancestral rites in honor of St. John the Baptist and the famous Sagra de su Nenniri.

This event skillfully blends Christian devotion with ancient agricultural rituals, giving visitors a sense of timelessness.

The ritual of “Su Nenniri”

The undisputed star of the festival is Su Nenniri. As per tradition, the village youth prepare containers with wheat or barley sprouts, grown in the dark and decorated with ribbons and flowers. These small “gardens of Adonis” represent a symbol of rebirth and fertility.

The most moving moment? The procession to the sea. The procession, adorned with the vibrant colors of the traditional Bari Sardo costumes and accompanied by the sound of the launeddas, winds from the town center to the splendid setting of the Barì tower, where the nenniris are thrown into the water as a propitiatory rite for the harvest.

What to expect in the 2026 edition

In addition to religious rites, Bari Sardo comes alive with a rich civil program of events:
